While making the reservation, a promotion was advertised stating that a bottle of champagne would be provided upon presentation of a voucher. We visited the restaurant to celebrate the birthdays of my daughter and my wife. When I presented the voucher, I was informed that my daughter was not eligible and that my wife was also considered ineligible, despite her birthday being within two weeks of the visit (visit on the 1st, birthday on the 15th). These conditions were not clearly stated at the time of booking. What was most disappointing was not the confusion around eligibility, but the attitude of your employee. The interaction was uncomfortable and unnecessarily confrontational. I was made to feel as though I was asking for something unreasonable or personal, rather than claiming a promotion you yourselves advertised. When the bottle was eventually provided, it was done in a way that suggested a “favor” had been granted rather than an obligation being honored. If the restaurant has strict or subjective rules around promotional offers, these must be clearly stated upfront. Advertising an offer and then making customers feel embarrassed or belittled for requesting it is unacceptable and damages trust. This experience unnecessarily overshadowed what should have been a positive family celebration.
